Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita 918-256-5555, -- William Joseph "Bill" Raven, 73 year old Bernice resident, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016 at the Integris Grove Hospital. He was born on January 26, 1942 in Arvada, Colorado to Edward Joseph and Marjorie Clara (Mckillip) Raven. Bill was a graduate of Edna, Kansas High School. He married Erma Lea (Hays) on October 19, 1985 in Miami. Bill was the owner/operator of Bill's trucking company in Bernice, he formerly was the owner/operator of the Bernice Sanitation Company for 23 years. In earlier years Bill was very active in rodeo, calf roping and team roping. He was also a former member of the Labette County Mounted Posse, the Labette County Fair board, and had been a 4-H Leader. Bill was the mayor of Bernice for 16 years, a firefighter for Bernice Volunteer Fire Department from 1985-2007 and served as Fire Chief for 20 years. Preceding him in death were his parents and seven siblings. The family includes: His wife Erma of the home: his children, James D. Raven and companion Barbara Walker, Rhonda M. Zook and husband Galen of Columbus, Kansas, Brenda S. Cooper and husband Charlie of Weldona, Colorado, Suzanne Lofgren and husband Kevin of Cleora, Jason Boudreaux of Verdunville, Louisiana; brothers, Jack Raven of Denver, Colorado, Jim Raven of California and a sister, Jenny Stobaugh and husband John of Las Vegas; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita. The funeral will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Craig County Fairgrounds Community Building in Vinita, with Galen Zook officiating. Interment will follow at the Pheasant Hill Cemetery northwest of Vinita. Friends are giving to the Bernice Volunteer Fire Department. Online condolences may be made at www.honoringmemories.com.
