Benjamin Funeral Service ~~~Nowata, Oklahoma~~~918-273-2700 William "Bill" Donald Samples Sr. 89-year-old Nowata resident passed away July 17, 2016 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was born May 4, 1927 in Nowata to William Daniel and Gertrude (Montgomery) Samples. Bill was educated in the Nowata School System. On November 14, 1945 Bill enlisted and proudly served in the United States Navy. He was a Fireman First Class serving on the U.S.S. Tierra, U.S.S. Tantalus, U.S.S. Frontier, and the U.S.S. Astoria. He separated from the Navy on October 3, 1947. On February 12, 1949 he married the love of his life, Betty Green, in Casper Wyoming. Bill worked as a pumper for Skelly Oil for several years and later bought and operated the Western Auto Store in Nowata. He worked for 12 years as the service manager for the Chevrolet dealership here in Nowata. Bill was a member of the Cornerstone Community Church in Nowata, as well as the Sunset Lodge #57 AF&AM in Nowata. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. He and Betty traveled over most of the States as well as trips to Canada and Mexico on their Motorcycle. Bill was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. He held a special place in his heart for all his family and will be missed by all who knew him. Preceding Bill Samples in death are his parents, Bill and Gertrude Samples, and a grandson Charles Gilstrap. Survivors include his wife of 67 years Betty Samples; a son William Donald Samples Jr. and wife Carol of Nowata; a daughter Rhonda Flowers and husband Bobby, of Stillwater, Oklahoma; grandchildren Andrea Stamper and husband Larry, Nancy Liston, Lisa Choate and husband Matt; great grandchildren, Kelsey Stamper, Karson Stamper, Treabein Liston, Lydia Gavrila, Camden Choate, Liam Choate; a brother Jack Samples of Hayes, Kansas; many other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services for Bill Samples will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at The Cornerstone Community Church in Nowata, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service of Nowata. The family suggests donations to the Journey Home Hospice House, 3406 S.E. Kentucky St., Bartlesville, Ok. 74006.
