William Allan Spurgeon, age 70, passed from this life on September 21, 2012. He spent his last days at home under hospice care after a long battle with cancer. Allan was born at Konowa, Oklahoma where his father worked in the oilfields. His parents were John B. and Yvonne (Fuzzell) Spurgeon. As an infant he was very frail, so his parents moved back to the Big Creek area of Nowata County. He attended school at Childers for 12 years. On May 28, 1960 he married Ruth Epperson in Delaware. He began working after graduation in the local oil fields where he worked for eighteen years. In 1968, he bought Delaware Hay and Grain and ran that while raising cattle at his home west of Nowata. After selling the Delaware business he began working for the State Department of Agriculture as a livestock inspector at farms and ranches and also at sale barns in northeastern Oklahoma. He worked as a livestock inspector for twenty seven years retiring in 2003. He continued to care for his cattle and horses. Allan is survived by his wife, Ruth of their home, his daughter Vicki of Lawton, a son Jim and his wife, Kristi of Nowata, a brother John and wife JoAnn of Vinita, a sister Carol Stevens and husband Bob of Nowata. He is survived by three granddaughters, Jessica of Lawton and Katey and Abby of Nowata and a host of other family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family wishes you to remember the Eagle's Lodge at 110 SW Second Street Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
