Lifelong Nowata resident Willie Wilford Alford (64) went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 1, 2012, in Nowata. He entered into this life August 4, 1947 the son of Virdie David and Velma (Shields) Alford. Willie attended Lincoln School and graduated from Nowata High School in 1967 and entered into the United States Navy in September of 1968. On June 6, 1986 he married Linda Hill in Nowata. Willie worked for Nowata County District 1, where he was working on his 42 year of employment. He loved raising a wonderful garden that fed many family and friends. You could always find him at a Nowata Ironmen football game as he never missed one. He was proud of his school and football team. When not rooting on the Ironmen, or working his garden, you could find Willie working at Mount Olive Baptist Church, where he was known as "The Deacon" or was called (Deac) for short. He loved his Church family almost as much as he loved his own family. They all held a special place in his heart. After a long day Willie liked to relax watching westerns on television. Willie was a very special person that will be missed by all who knew him. Preceding Mr. Alford in death are his parents, Virdie David and Velma Alford, and his baby girl Trina Tucker Martin. Those left behind to mourn his passing are his children; Kevin (Amy) Hill, of Owasso, Markesha Hill, of Nowata, and Micelle Perkins, of Florida; grandchildren, Jacquelin, Nakyia, Kentray, of Oklahoma City, Dayne, of Nowata, Mackenzie, and Grant, of Owasso, ten other grandchildren; one great grandchild; siblings, Nathaniel Alford, of Nowata, Betty and husband Lawrence Krikendoll, of Oklahoma City, Mary Hubbard, of Nowata, Tealla Phillips, of Oklahoma City, Velma and husband Edward DeSilva, of McKinney, Texas, Gracie and husband David Tilmon, Taylors, South Carolina, Henry Alford, of Nowata, Cordell (Tonya) Alford, of Columbus, Ohio, Harlene and wife Carrie Alford, of Columbus, Ohio; one aunt, Junita Akins, of Hugo; special friends, James Lucky, Waymond Hubbard, Theresa and Ann Hill of Nowata, Gail Hersey of Charlotte, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
