Willie Jean Pope, age 81 and longtime Vinita resident, died Friday December 26, 2008. Willie was born in Hornersville, Missouri to Ross and Pearl (Robinson) Taylor. In 1943 she was united in marriage to Shirley Lloyd Pope. After moving to Vinita in 1944 Willie began working for Craig General Hospital as the Dietary Supervisor. She retired there in 1989. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, telling stories, and fishing, but what brought her the most joy in life was her family and raising her eight children. Willie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Shirley Lloyd Pope in 1992, her brother Archie Taylor, sister Georgia Newcomb, and her beloved dog Sissy. Survivors include her eight children: Don Pope and wife Sherry of Eucha, OK, Jim Pope and wife Kyung Hee of Mt. Lake Terrace, Washington, Glenda Pursley and husband Ron of Bartlett, KS, Mike Pope of Claremore, Dennis Pope of Tulsa, Rick Pope of Vinita, Terry Pope of Vinita, and Larry Pope and wife Teresa of Emporia, KS. She is also survived by her sister Evelyn Ramsey and niece Sue of St. Louis, MO, 17 Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren, and her close friend Sammie D. Waldrop of Claremore. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 30, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Fairview Cemetery. Pastor Justin Turner will be officiating. Services are by Luginbuel Funeral Home. Online condolences can be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
