Willis Koon

Willis Davis "Bill" Koon, 86 year-old Vinita resident went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at the Craig General Hospital in Vinita, after a long illness. Bill was born July 6, 1921 in Gordo, Alabama to M. M. and Dulia Ann Koon. He was raised in Pickens County, Alabama and attended Gordo Schools. Bill came to Vinita in 1941 and married Dora Mae Mathis on March 18, 1942, where he continued to make his home. Bill retired from Skelgas Division, Skelly/Getty Oil Company as a branch manager, after retiring from there he was a part time salesman for National Advertising Company. He has served as President of the NALPG Association, was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Tulsa Scottish Rite. Bill was a member of the Vinita Rotary Club and the First Church of God, where he taught Sunday school. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II. Preceding him in death were his wife of over 65 years Dora Mae Koon on July 10, 2007, sisters, Gladys Fair, Ruth Hayes, Earlene Koon, Rachel Kiker and Truda Mae Little; a brother Fred S. Koon, his parents, M. M. Koon and Dulia Ann Koon The family includes: five children, Willa Mae Walker and husband Ronnie of Broken Arrow, Margaret Manley, Eva Jane Webb and husband Mike all of Owasso, Micah J. Koon and wife Donna, and Sammy Koon all of Vinita; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Earl Koon and wife Margie, Marvin Henry Koon and wife Carol all of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, James R. Koon and wife Jean of Gordo, Alabama and a sister Sara Nell Koon of Gordo, Alabama. A special thanks to St. Francis Hospice for their comfort care they gave during this time, also the First Church of God along with family and friends for their many prayers. The funeral service will be held, Thursday, November 15, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Church of God in Vinita, with Pastor Eddie Wrinkle officiating.
