Benjamin Funeral Service - Wilma Jean Yirsa, 85-year-old Nowata resident, passed away at Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center on Thursday, April 7, 2016. She was born July 20, 1930 in Centralia, Oklahoma to Hugh and Leola (Middlebusher) Bowden. Wilma Jean was a 1950 graduate of Childers High School. She was a cook at the Nowata Hospital for over thirty years. She married Carl Yirsa in January of 1992. Wilma Jean was a member of the New Life Assembly of God Church in Nowata. She loved baking cookies for the children and for many years worked with the Vacation Bible School. She would take cookies to the children attending Children's Church. Wilma Jean was a very sweet lady that never had harsh words for others. She loved the outdoors and will be missed by all who knew her. Preceding Mrs. Yirsa in death are her parents, Hugh and Leola Bowden, and her husband Carl Yirsa; and an infant sister Elizabeth Ann Bowden. Survivors include two brothers, Virgil Bowden of Alvin, Texas, Joe Bowden of Vinita; three sisters, Ruby Henegar of Duncanville, Texas, Dorothy Pregler of Chelsea, Oklahoma, Esther Morris of Delaware, Oklahoma; many other relatives and a host of friends.
