Yvonne Lloyd (Fuzzell) Spurgeon, of East Star Route, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Jane Phillips Continuous Care in Bartlesville on April 3, 2009 one day after her 88th birthday. She was born on April 2, 1921 at Coody's Bluff, Oklahoma to William Lester and Inza Margaret Fuzzell. She and John B. Spurgeon were married on July 15, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1996. She is survived by her two sons John and his wife Jo Ann of Vinita, Allan and his wife Ruth of Nowata, one daughter Carol Jean and her husband Bob Stevens of Nowata, she also leaves 6 grandchildren: Vicki Spurgeon, Schelle Peper, Lisa Hall, Lori Shields, John Mark Spurgeon, Jim Spurgeon and their spouses, three step-grandchildren: Larry Stevens, Rick Stevens and Debbie Vineyard and their spouses, and eighteen great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren, three brothers: Lester J. and his wife Dorothy Fuzzell of Victoria, Texas, Norman L. and his wife Delores Fuzzell of Greensboro, North Carolina and Dale E. and his wife Ella Fuzzell of Claremore, Oklahoma, one sister-in-law Mary Louise Stickney of Michigan and many nieces and nephews. Yvonne was a devoted Christian and loved to garden and fish. She tilled and planted her garden into her late 80's. She graduated from Childers's High School in 1939 and was the second oldest surviving graduate. During World War II, she worked the night shift in Tulsa at the Douglas Aircraft Plant, as a "Rosie the Riveter", while her husband was in the Army overseas in the Philippines, at the same time taking care of their 3 young children. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Inza, her beloved husband John B. Spurgeon, 3 brothers Wayne, Floyd and Bobby, one daughter-in-law Bonnie Spurgeon, and 2 grandsons Tyree Roberts and Terry Stevens. Funeral services for Yvonne are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 08, 2009 in the Benjamin Funeral Chapel with Ben Killion officiating. Final committal rites will be accorded Mrs. Spurgeon in the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be her grandsons: John Mark Spurgeon, Jim Spurgeon, Brannon Roberts, Rick Peper, Wayne Hall and Gordon Shields. Honorary Casket Bearers will be: Larry Stevens, Rick Stevens, Kenny Vineyard, Norman Allan Fuzzell, Steven Fuzzell, Kenneth Fuzzell, Greg Fuzzell, Jared Peper, and Heath Peper. Visitation will be held at the Benjamin Funeral Home on Sunday, April 5, 2009 from 8am until 12pm and Monday and Tuesday April 6th and 7th from 8am until 9pm.
